A Gem of an Opportunity

A Gem of an Opportunity | TetraMap UK

What a great way to start the week by tuning into a webinar presented by TetraMap’s creators Jon & Yoshimi Brett and Louise Duncan, General Manager TetraMap International.

I have lost count of the number of times I have facilitated TetraMap yet still find myself on a continuous journey of discovery and learning.   To have the creators share their wisdom and insights was an opportunity not to be missed.

What Gems did I take away?

Being a native New Zealander, Jon reflected on his love of sailing and how nature is in charge when you are out on the sea.

“You can’t sail into the wind. You may have a destination but you can’t go direct”

Yoshimi reminded us that, being facilitators of learning requires us to let go of our ego.  “Facilitation is all about “them” (the learner) and not about you.  It’s not about the content but the process.”

On Why They Created TetraMap

Jon explained, he wanted to create a simple model as an alternative to many traditional behavioural tools, which he refers to as “expert systems”.  “TetraMap doesn’t give all the answers but allows us to think creatively rather than rely on expert systems telling us what we should do”

For Yoshimi, her vision and purpose was to resolve issues around behaviour and conflict in the workplace, which, she observed as being a result of silo mentality and an inability to leverage the natural diversity in teams and organisations.

“Over the years, diversity has focused on ethnicity and gender. TetraMap encourages us to consider behavioural diversity and how we can leverage our natural diversity and work inter-dependently to achieve stronger and more sustainable outcomes.”

 The TetraApproach

Yoshimi explained the TetraApproach as a framework for delivery and, as facilitators we need to ensure every TetraMap workshop / presentation must :-

•Contextualise – Where’s the relevance?

•Engage – Where’s the motivation?

•Shift Mindsets – Where’s the shift?

•Raise self and team Esteem – Where’s the love?

Throughout TetraMap’s development, we are reminded to respect diversity, work inter-dependently to create synergy for the sustainability of humanity and the planet.

Thank you to Louise for presenting a global perspective and we will share her TetraMap successes stories in our next update.

"To date I've facilitated 24 TetraMap sessions since being accredited, each session bringing different learning and understanding every time.  I've witnessed some  momentous 'lightbulb' moments for some people, which makes my day.  The biggest win for me with TetraMap is that it's just so applicable in the workplace, delegates remember their preference, and are still having discussion about it 6 months down the line."

- Ally Wightman
Senior Leadership Development Consultant, Telefonica UK

"I always choose TetraMap as the model of behaviour because the feedback from delegates consistently reflects a positive experience and extremely high application back in the 'real world'.  It's reassuring to be approached by delegates from years gone by to be told how the experience has changed their lives for the better, both inside and outside of work."

- Dan Masters
Training Consultant

"It's a phenomenally powerful tool for managers to communicate more effectively with their team."

- Ben Long
Trainer, BSkyB

"We are delighted with the results which speak for themselves.  TetraMap is the most memorable take away from the Ignite programme.  We have used the model in our management training to help improve coaching skills, communication skills and how to recognise how the different elements behave under stress.  This has been invaluable in helping our managers develop their teams more effectively."

- Tessa Roff
Training Manager, Nationwide Building Society

TetraMap is probably one of the most power and simple tools I have come across to get people, teams and communities working together constructively and with massive speed and accuracy.
